it was a hard pill to swallow was an impermanent piece installed in the spare room of my home in Toronto, and acted as a performative space for it’s duration. The installation highlighted three sculptural objects that were created over a year-long period, and then hung and balanced on white string that spanned the full volume of the room.
This piece was documented heavily throughout its’ process on social media platforms however in it’s finished state, its fragments only remain. It was a deeply self-reflective piece, and was a means of coping with my own landscape of identity that was shifting at the time. The process of the piece was the most important and personal to me, and it was about building a space where I could house my fragmented sense of identity at the time, and have a safe place to play and thrive.
Below are stills from the performance, done on the evening the piece was finished. The next day, the piece was de-installed.
